This year, the film “Little Miss Sunshine” is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and while reminiscing about the shoot, Toni Collette and Greg Kinnear revealed that they would have loved to keep the iconic yellow van.

The vehicle plays a central role in the story and functions almost like a character, symbolizing the journey of the eccentric Hoover family.

In an interview with People, Collette and Kinnear talked about their desire to keep the van; “We both considered buying it at the end of filming. I’ve wanted one since I was 17,” Collette said. “I think Peter Saraf (one of the film’s producers) took it, but he was harassed wherever he went because it’s the Little Miss Sunshine van.”

“It would have been an awkward auction,” Kinnear joked. “Toni and I bidding on that car and rushing to try to win it.”

Five identical vans were used during filming. Three of them were fully functional, while two were modified. The vehicle, a Volkswagen Type 2, can now be found at the Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, USA.

The acclaimed 2006 road movie follows the Hoover family on a three-day journey from New Mexico to California to fulfill the dream of Olive (Abigail Breslin), the seven-year-old daughter, of taking part in the beauty pageant “Little Miss Sunshine”.
